A tale of 2 bags...

The multi pocketed bag has been around for a while now, and one of the hottest examples is the Tod's Messenger Media bag, which I think is responsible for the resurgence of 90s style nylon bags.

I happen to love this bag for it's utilitarian appeal, and lack of obvious branding. It would be a perfect modern version of the Prada classic if only it had the same unisex appeal (the shiny hardware and short strap - at it's longest, it hits just under the breast- make it more for the girls). Where the Prada nylon was considered outrageously priced at the time, there has been such a desensitization that the $775 this bag costs seems almost like a bargain...after all, it is Tod's. You can order the Tod's Media Messenger from Saks, and be stylin in all your retro 90s glory.

For the less label conscious bag shopper who still appreciates the style, but would not dream of spending in the triple digits for a canvas bag, Andrea Brueckner has a fantastic alternative.

A bit taller, and narrower, the Luxembourg Shopper has a very similar look to the Tod's bag. Same multi-zip pocketed front, same shiny gold hardware, only the Andrea Brueckner is made from leather. Yes, you give up the designer cachet, but you make up for it in personal style and shopping savvy...and for anyone who would care, Andrea Brueckner is not a brand to sneeze at anyway. The biggest difference, is that this is a top handle tote style, while the first bag is a convertible shoulder/messenger which really does suit the larger, heavier body.

The Luxenbourg Shopper is only $20 more than the Tod's Messenger Media at $795, but you can feel like you're paying for the product costs, not the name.

The Andrea Brueckner Luxembourg shopper is available from Blue Bee.
